About St. Paul's

Quick Links

Located in the heart of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex—Arlington, Texas—St. Paul's Preparatory Academy (formerly Cathedral Christian Academy) is a college-preparatory academy for students interested in pursuing a high-quality, Christian education that will prepare them for a successful and industrious life in the twenty-first century. In a time of technological and ideological transition, the school provides students with the proper grounding for negotiating the modern world, particularly in its relation to the old through an emphasis on a classical education. For students in grades K3-12, the school provides students with a safe, Christian, proactive, and intellectually sound and safe environment for their growth, mentally, spiritually, and bodily.

Founding

In 1988, Dr. Gene and Sue Lingerfelt founded St. Paul's Preparatory Academy (formerly Cathedral Christian Academy) as an extended ministry of Overcoming Faith Christian Center to provide a substantial, high-quality, college-preparatory, Christian education for the children of the church and concerned parents in the Arlington and Dallas-Ft. Worth communities.

Mission Statement

Honor, Duty, and Loyalty—these three words provide the theoretical, practical, and spiritually based framework for St. Paul’s approach to a world of increasing complexities and challenges.

Just as St. Paul believed that God called him to share the Gospel with all people, so too does St. Paul’s Preparatory Academy believe that God has called it to educate young minds, from every background of society, in a way that contributes to the continuing realization of God’s Kingdom in this life and in the next.

The mission of St. Paul’s Preparatory Academy is to prepare students for success in the secular academy, in the world, and in the ministry through a classical, historically grounded education system that instills honor, duty, and loyalty as worthwhile characteristics for individuals truly interested in achieving success in every realm of life.  The school’s curriculum is founded upon classical principles and approaches to learning, which have been in use since antiquity.  This foundation provides the intellectual and spiritual means for challenging students to become Christ-centered individuals, who can articulate their beliefs, values, and knowledge in affirmation of Christ’s Gospel and its applicability to life.  This approach—grounded in classical knowledge, belief in ultimate Truth, and an emphasis on contribution to one’s community and world—serves as the basis for imparting St. Paul’s teaching into the life of every child.

Principal
Janice Wood

Janice Wood has been St. Paul's Preparatory Academy's principal since 1990. Before becoming principal, she taught third grade for one year. She received her B.S. in Elementary Science in 1967 from the University of North Texas, and in 1999, Mrs. Wood also received her M.S. in Education Administration with honors from the University of Texas at Arlington. During her career prior to joining St. Paul's, Mrs. Wood worked for the Arlington Independent School District (1967-1969), helped found one the first Presbyterian pre-schools (1970), and taught as a private piano teacher (1970-1992). Since 1990, Mrs. Wood has seen many students come to St. Paul's Preparatory Academy, and as the school has expanded, she has sought to constantly improve the school's quality of education, while mentoring the school's graduating classes. As both an instructor and administrator, Mrs. Wood gives all she can towards making this school a true preparatory academy that makes students Christ-centered, ethically conscious individuals.
