K5B Reading Circles

Our Kindergarteners LOVE to read! We began the school year with many of my students only knowing some letters and sounds and now they are all reading one and two vowel words! At first we learned the names and sounds of our short vowels and then added consonants. We then began to blend them together and add that final consonant to make one vowel words. In November we started our "Reading Circles" where the class is divided into reading groups and get to have a special time set aside daily just to improve their reading skills. In December we learned long vowels and blended those as well which led our students to be able to read two-vowel words. We are now learning 2-3 special sounds a week which has increased their vocabulary and helped my students to sound out and read so many new words! We started reading stories this past week during our Reading Circle time and it's been great seeing how much they enjoy reading.
